About Yin yoga

Yin Yoga targets the fascia, also known as connective tissue, of the body. It is a gentle and powerful practice designed to improve tone and flexibility, restore hydration in and detoxification of the soft tissues, maintain fluidity of the muscles and joints and regulate the lymph, endocrine and nervous systems. Whether living a sedentary or active life style Yin yoga is beneficial and accessible to all, becoming more and more relevant as we age.

A Yin Yoga is a safe and functional practice taking into account skeletal differences, injury and the tensional forces of the fascia, making it a safe for every individual.

It doesn’t require a lot of space if you are practicing from home, just a mat and a soft blanket or rug.

A warm relaxing environment is key, you may like to add music or aromatherapy oils to enhance your experience.

Yin Yoga is a series of postures taken for anywhere between 2-5 minutes each. They are supported with skilful guidance and the use of yoga props, allowing the body to release fully during each pose. Props are essential, if you don’t have your own Yin Yoga props, you may find the video below helpful.

You will explore a variety of postures to target specific areas of tension in a way that is right for you. It is very normal to be in a completely different posture to the person next to you to achieve the same target area stretch.

Each pose is followed by a counter pose or releasing posture called a rebound, this is to allow the body to absorb the benefits of each pose and is as important as the posture itself.

Yin yoga is a relaxing practice where the muscles are soft, the breath natural with a calm, mindful awareness of the body.
